All stores are now listed in the nationwide return finder and offer year-round returns for small appliances without a new purchase, as well as for large appliances on a 1:1 exchange basis. MediaMarktSaturn is the first major retailer to participate in the campaign as a cooperation partner.

MediaMarktSaturn is making the disposal of old electrical appliances even easier: As a cooperation partner of the "Every Plug Counts!" campaign weeks of the ear Foundation, the company will be even more committed to the proper return of old electrical appliances – visibly, permanently, and nationwide. MediaMarktSaturn has long been committed not only to professional disposal but also to the purchase and refurbishment of used devices.

From now on, all MediaMarkt and Saturn stores are listed in the e-waste return finder at www.e-schrott-entsorgen.org. Consumers can use this to find their nearest return point with just a few clicks – whether it's a recycling center, municipal waste disposal facility, or local electronics store. The standardized logo for the electronic appliance take-back program provides additional guidance and shows at a glance where old appliances can be dropped off free of charge – including, of course, all MediaMarkt and Saturn stores throughout Germany.

The return of old appliances is, of course, not limited to the promotional period this October. Customers can return their old appliances to any store year-round, in accordance with legal requirements. The following applies: Up to three small old appliances (up to 25 cm external dimensions) can be returned free of charge – even without a new purchase. When purchasing a new, larger appliance, a similar old appliance can be returned free of charge – for example, an old clothes dryer when buying a new one. This also applies to home deliveries.

Retail as a key driver of the circular economy

The cooperation with the ear Foundation is part of MediaMarktSaturn's BetterWay initiative, which supports customers in making informed choices for more sustainable alternatives – from product selection, purchasing and refurbishing used appliances, to proper disposal.

Ana Maria Jaime, Vice President of Sustainability at MediaMarktSaturn, emphasizes the importance of collaborative solutions:

“Taking back old devices is an integral part of our responsibility as an electronics retailer and fits perfectly with our BetterWay initiative, which helps customers make more sustainable choices. Together with the ear Foundation, we want to ensure that even more devices are disposed of properly and valuable raw materials are recovered – in a completely straightforward way.”

“With MediaMarktSaturn as a partner, we are not only strengthening take-back programs in the retail sector, but also sending a strong signal for a truly circular economy,” says Alexander Goldberg, CEO of the ear Foundation. “The more visible and easier the return options are for consumers, the more devices will be returned to the recycling loop. We sincerely hope that other retailers will follow MediaMarktSaturn’s example.”

The cooperation begins as part of the nationwide campaign weeks "Every Plug Counts! Germany Collects E-Waste," initiated by the ear Foundation. From October 6 to 19, 2025 – around International E-Waste Day – municipalities, associations, educational institutions, and companies will participate with informational events on the proper disposal of old electrical appliances. MediaMarktSaturn, a major retailer, is also participating as a partner for the first time.
