Small footprint, big service: MediaMarktSaturn opens first stores in the Smart store format in Germany

With the launch of the "Smart" store, MediaMarktSaturn's fourth store format is now officially arriving in Germany: A MediaMarkt Smart store will open at each of five central locations. Munich, Cologne, Leipzig, and Heidelberg will open on November 14th, followed by Hamburg on December 16th.

MediaMarktSaturn is taking the next step in implementing its new store formats. The "Smart" format is now being rolled out in Germany. After the company took over the leases at five former Gravis locations, the first Smart stores are opening there in prime locations. The format is characterized by a compact footprint in high-traffic areas and a curated product range. The focus is on MediaMarktSaturn's services and omnichannel strategy.

Even closer to the customer: With the introduction of the Smart format, MediaMarktSaturn stores are now even easier to reach. Thanks to their central locations in city centers or other hubs, a visit to the store can be conveniently integrated into a commute, for example. A converted store in Berlin-Friedrichshain launched as a pilot project in early summer, and now five brand-new MediaMarkt Smart Stores are opening their doors. This makes Germany the third country within the MediaMarkt group, after Italy and Spain, to roll out all four store formats.

“Our motto is: the right format in the right place. With the Smart Stores, we are specifically targeting tech-savvy customers who are nearby,” explains Hubert Kluske, Managing Director of Sales at MediaMarktSaturn Germany. “The focus is on services that can be used quickly and conveniently. Our Smart Stores also serve as drop-off and return points for online orders. With this format, we clearly want to promote the omnichannel experience and position ourselves as a trusted partner close to the customer.”
